If we are to believe the findings of a new study which was carried out by Brazil’s Londrina University, then there is a direct link between smoking and the reduction of a person’s physical activity. More specifically, during the research, researchers attached a stepometer to 60 smokers and 50 non-smokers for six consecutive days and for 12 consecutive hours each day.
According to the results of the experiment, smokers were found to be walking less than non-smokers on a daily basis, while their pulmonary function was also found to be impaired, meaning that they were less physically able for a workout.
Researchers also handed out a questionnaire to participants asking them to self-evaluate their quality of life in relation to the overall condition of their own health. According to the results obtained, smokers replied that they feel more tired and admitted that they could not find any motivation in order to change their way of life.
As pointed out by the scientists, smokers are also more likely to be suffering from stress and anxiety and also to experience depression symptoms, while they also referred to the findings of past studies which had revealed that in comparison to non-smokers, smokers sleep for less hours and their sleep is not as relaxing as the sleep of non-smokers.
